Soccer Referees across the country are governed by US Soccer through state referee associations. Those state referee associations are a branch of the state associations. Here in Louisiana, the State Referee Committee (“SRC”) is one of several LSA Committees and oversees the training, development, instruction, assignment, and assessment of referees. The SRC shall develop the appropriate procedures and policies for oversight of referees, instructors, assessors, and assignors to insure they perform their respective functions.
Those serving on the State Referee Committee are appointed by the LSA Executive Committee and include the following:
MICHAEL SILVER Chairman and State Games Assignor Michael has been a soccer official in Louisiana since 2003, has served on the SRC since 2010 and was appointed as the Chairperson in 2018. He also serves on both the Louisiana High School Officials Association (LHSOA) Executive Committee and the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) Executive Committee. He officiates USSF, high school, & collegiate games and serves as the Regional Coordinator of Officials for high school soccer and basketball. Michael is the Business Manager of a local telephony, cabling, and IT/managed services company and resides in Alexandria, Louisiana. |
JOSE CORDOVA State Referee Administrator Jose Cordova has been a certified soccer referee since 1997. He was first appointed as a member of the State Referee Committee in 2006 and has served as the State Referee Administrator since 2009. Jose is also a referee assignor, instructor, and assessor. In his professional life, Jose is a faculty member and chair of the Computer Science program at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Jose and his family reside in Monroe, LA. |
JENNIFER POLITZ State Youth Referee Administrator Jennifer Politz serves as the State Youth Referee Administrator (SYRA). Focusing on referee retention and development and she leads the Committee for selection of Louisiana Referee delegates to the USYS Regional events. Jennifer also serves the Louisiana soccer community as an Assignor and an Instructor. She has been a Referee since 2009 and is formerly a Grade 4 National Assistant Referee. She is the former President of the Soccer Referee Association of Baton Rouge. Prior to her involvement as a referee, Jennifer was a youth and an amateur soccer player and grew up playing volleyball, basketball, and softball in addition to soccer. She coached youth volleyball for 15 years. |
WAYNE ROBINSON State Director of Instruction Wayne lives in Slidell, LA and is a USSF Regional Referee,. In addition to his role as State Director of Instruction, Wayne serves as an Assessor and Assignor. Wayne was instrumental in designing the LSA Novice Referee Program. He currently referees USSF/LSA, high school, and College games. Wayne has been refereeing since 2003. |
TIM CHIASSON Assistant State Director of Instruction Tim has been a certified soccer referee since 1999. He was first appointed to the State Referee Committee in 2007 and has served in roles as State Games Assignor, State Assigning Coordinator, State Director of Instruction. Tim is also a referee assignor, State Instructor, and State Assessor. In his professional life, Tim has been teaching high school since 1990 after graduating from UL. He earned a Masters Degree in Education from LSU in 2000. |
COURTENAY DEAN State Director of Assignment Courtenay Dean has been a certified soccer referee since 2005. She was first appointed to the State Referee Committee in 2018 and has served as the State Director of Assignors since that time. Courtenay is also a referee assignor and instructor. In her professional life, Courtenay is a high school mathematics teacher at C. E. Byrd High School. Courtenay and her family reside in Shreveport, LA. |
DAVID BUSEKIST State Director of Assessment David Busekist was a certified soccer referee from 1986 to 2009 and was a Regional Referee from 1993 to 2009. He was first appointed to the State Referee Committee in 1992. While on the Referee Committee, he has served as the State Referee Administrator, State Director of Instruction, and is currently serving as State Director of Assessment. David is also a Regional Instructor and a Regional Assessor. In his professional life, David has been a faculty member at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond since 1988. David resides in Hammond, LA. |
DARRIN BROWDER Coordinator of Referee Development Darrin Browder has been a certified soccer referee since 2004. He was first appointed to the State Referee Committee in 2018. Darrin is also a referee assignor, instructor, and assessor. In his professional life, Darrin is the Chapter Development Specialist for Court Watch NOLA and resides in New Orleans. |
